Christmas Gifts a la La Petite Fleur

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Our friends decided to pick names and do family gifts this year for presents.  Two of my friends asked me to create something for their gifts to give.  For Amy, Mark, and Matea I used grapevine garland and white lights to adorn the top of their cabinets in their new kitchen.  Amy loved it,  Mark was happy with it because it made Amy love her house again, and Matea is too young to care. (I forgot to take a picture, will get one soon)

For Anne, Jon, AJ, and Mason,  Anne gave me a grapevine wreath and asked me to “do something” to it.  I used some more grapevine and green sparkly Dogwood branches to connect the two sides of the wreath and accented it with two types of permanent botanical Ferns, Echinacea Seed pods, wooden flowers, dried Yarrow, a red painted mushroom, sparkly orange accents, and a red Lotus looking flower. Merry Christmas! My husband, Kyle, thought it was a gift more for just Anne so he went and bought Jon a 6 pack of beer.  He liked that;)

VERY Last Minute Bride

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

I got a call on Tuesday night from the sister of a bride about my availability for doing a wedding for Saturday morning.  Now that’s a last minute wedding flower request record! Even though I was prepping my house for the Christmas party of the Century I was more than happy to help this family out with putting together some hot flowers for their cold wedding. Black Calla Lilies, shades of red Roses, dark red almost black Kangaroo Paws, and a collar of Pepper-berry Greens made for an interesting combination, a nice, spicy fragrance, and a festive feel.

Alicia and her mom came to me when it was still toasty warm out….sniff sniff, wipe frozen tear from corner of eye while looking off into the distance. Anyway, her mom works at one of my fav places, Gerten’s, and my goodness, she knows her flowers!  Her mom and I came up with a superb plan for her wedding flowers while Alicia slept with her eyes open and pretended to pay attention once in a while by nodding.  Poor girl works the midnight shift for Washington County 911- I HATE THE MIDNIGHT SHIFT!  Alicia amended things quite a bit once she actually saw what her mom and I came up with, but the results were just as fantastic…says me! I’m for sure bringing back some lost styles, the teardrop/cascade bouquets- I think this was my 5th?!? Cool. Check out the first two wonderful pictures taken by one of my flava-flav photogs, Steph from EyeSpy Photography www.eyespy-weddings.com (she also takes damn good saucy photos too if you’re interested in a good gift for your husband/husband-to-be. See her super-cool blog for examples of that classy naughtyness http://blog.eyespy-weddings.com/?p=842 and see if you recognize anyone:) . The third picture, the flowers on the bench, is my crappy photography of the attendant’s bouquets.

The wedding took place at Augustana Lutheran Church in West St. Paul and the reception took place at the wonderful Mississippi Dunes Golf Course where Alicia’s mom did all the centerpieces which turned out ab-fab! Great job, Mom!

The lucky bride and groom are now in Hawaii- No fair! Oops, there go the frozen tears again!

Jana and I met this past summer (oh how I miss that warm weather already!) talking about wedding flowers, playing with spray paint and wheat, and enjoying a beer during our meeting.  I knew we would work well together:)  We came up with some unique ways to bring an Autumnal feel her special day by using flame colors, leaves, gourds, wheat, berries, and lots of different textures.

Their ceremony took place at the biggest church in the state, the gorgeous Cathedral  http://www.cathedralsaintpaul.org/. The reception was at Mendakota Country Club https://mendakotacc.memberstatements.com/tour/tours.cfm?tourid=14096 where I recently did another fun wedding- see http://lapetitefleurmn.com/news/?p=970

Jana called the next day to tell how excited she was, that everything was fabulous, that she was leaving on her honeymoon up to Tofte, that she was bringing her bouquet with her, and that she was going to be my new spokesperson.  Thanks Jana, I’m so happy you enjoyed everything! I wish you two the best in love and life!

A note from the bride:

Dear Carra,

Thank you so much for the beautiful job you did on the flowers and centerpieces for our wedding.  Your work helped set the mood for the wedding! We had so many compliments-people raved about the sophisticated and fun vibe to the flowers.  I kept them alive as long as I could and took about a million photos! We hope to see you again and are recommending you as much as possible!

Sincerely,

Jana and Alan

Check out a couple of their professional photographs below.  I’ll be posting more as I receive them. I told Jana about one of my favorite places to walk my dog that just so happens to have a ton of wonderful backdrops for photography and she took her photos there. Thank you Brianna from B2 Photography for these super-fab images!! www.b2-photography.com (I can’t wait to hit the Blue Door Pub with you to devour a Blucy!)
