Diana and Nick 2/16/08

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Diana and Nick are a very sweet couple that live in Texas.  We met in the summer but did the rest of the planning over email, which worked out just fine.  Diana’s mother used to be a florist, so I knew I had to be on my toes for this one!  Using giant Circus Roses, Red Freedom Roses, and clusters of fluffy burgundy Carnations, we gave the bride everything she was asking for.  Diana and Nick were married at the historic, cozy, and gorgeous Fort Snelling Chapel http://fortsnellingmcf.org/events.php and had an absolutely glorious day.

The memorial arrangement (the last picture shown) was for Nick’s brother.  They described him as a free spirit that loved to travel and they wanted the flowers to reflect that.  I used Curly Willow, Snapdragons, Wheat, Delphinium, Yarrow, Ruscus, and Fern accented with a simple tie of Raffia on the vase to achieve this wild yet beautiful look.

Congrats and best wishes!

A note from the newlywed bride:

You were wonderful to work with- email is big for me since I’m out of town and work in a clinic setting where I can’t use the phone often during business hours! I LOVED my bouquet, it looks like it’s on fire in all the pictures, it’s awesome, especially since I wanted colors of fire/sunset!

I also particularly loved the memorial arrangement, with just a few sentences about Nick’s brother, it fit him perfectly, and Nick’s mom took it home to keep as long as possible! Thanks so much!

I saw us on your blog and was all excited :) I’ll be sure to let friends know about you in the future, and let my pictures do the talking:)

Celebration of Life 2/2/08

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Sadly, my co-worker’s father passed recently.  Her relationship with her father was rocky (like mine) but she made amendments and spent some quality time with him in his last years.  The other gals at work asked me to do an arrangement for his funeral.  When I found out that her father had become very spiritual I knew I wanted to make this arrangement with the focal point being a cross I fashioned out of birch sticks surrounded by white flowers; Football Mums, Gladiolas, and Button Mums with greens of Wax Flower and Italian Ruscus.  Susan, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Class Projects 1/21-1/25/08

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Oh,  how I LOVE taking florist classes. I get to work with a ton of wonderful people and flowers! My mentor, Ardith Beveridge, really heps me work outside my box, encouraging me to work with items and styles of floral arranging I wouldn’t normally; how to braid leaves into a bird, how to make an ”ice cream soda” out of carnations, how to make a floral “cake”, and I even learned the basics of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging!

This was a huge week for me, being in class from 7-2 then having to work from 3-11 at the jail, designing two areas in the Koehler and Dramm showroom, competing in my first floral design competition, making flowers for a baby shower, keeping up on the business, and all the while missing the snot out of my baby girl, Anja, who was in Northfield with my in-laws- thank you guys for helping out so much!  Here’s some of the pieces I came up with in class with the full images being my favorites…have fun browsing!
